Legends of Hollongapar is a documentary film on the biodiversity significance and associated conservation issues of Hollongapar Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary, a small protected area of 2098 hectare situated in the state of Assam in the northeastern part of India. Hollongapar is famous for its remarkable primate diversity, with seven different species inhabiting together and a range of other globally threatened wildlife and plant species. This film represents the biodiversity of Hollongapar and also focusses on basic information on four of the globally threatened primates, namely the Western hoolock gibbon, capped langur, stump-tailed macaque and pig-tailed macaque. Some of the key conservation concerns for the wildlife sanctuary, such as isolation, human-wildlife conflict, fragmentation of the forest patch and threats in form of pollutants have been discussed here, together with portraying the perception of local inhabitants directly associated with the forest towards its wildlife and associated issues. Thus, besides the biodiversity significance, the film is providing the locals a platform to share their concerns along with a way forward towards conservation.
