About the Photographer
I am a wildlife photographer and filmmaker by passion, which complements well with my professional work as a wildlife biologist.
When I am holding a camera, my interest lies in documentation of wildlife and natural heritage in South and South-East Asia and to use photography as a media for mass awareness towards conservation. I intend to use photography and filmmaking as a tool for wildlife documentation.
This requires a persistent effort in acquiring knowledge on wildlife as well as excelling in the techniques of photography which has been the pursuit of my life for past one decade. My images have been published in national and international magazines, books and reports by individual writers and conservationists, government and non-government agencies and commercial publishers. I primarily use Nikon equipments and a member of Nikon Professional Services (NPS). I am also an official photography mentor at Nikon School.
I am working as the founder Head of Wildlife Genetics Division and Media Production & Communications Division in Aaranyak, a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO) in India. I joined Aaranyak in the year 2008, and developed it's Wildlife Genetics Laboratory in Guwahati, Assam. This laboratory is currently undertaking population genetic research work on various threatened species such as greater one-horned rhino, Asian elephant, royal Bengal tiger and other felid carnivores in India, Javan and Sumatran rhinos in Indonesia, White-bellied Heron and snow leopard in Bhutan etc. I have implemented over a dozen research projects on ecology and conservation genetics so far and have received grants from various national and internaltional agencies. Prior to my work in Aaranyak, I curved my skills in various places inclduing the Department of Ecology and Evolution, University of Chicago, Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun and BNHS, India.
Please follow my Researchgate profile for my scientific publications.
My voluntary associations include the position of Publicity Secretary of Aaranyak since 2014, Member of IUCN SSC Asian Rhino Specialist Group (AsRSG) since 2009 and founder Executive Member of Association for the People and Environment (APE), a society working for socio-economic and environmental justice in the North Eastern states of India since 2012. I am currently leading photographic documentation activities of APE and also using it as a media for mass awareness towards conservation of wildlife in North East India.
